A shruti box is a small wooden instrument that traditionally works on a system of bellows. It is similar to a harmonium and is used to provide a drone in a practice session or concert of Indian classical music. It is also used as an accompaniment to other instruments, notably the flute. The lower notes of the Male Shruti Box are usually meant to accompany instrumentals or low vocals.
This shruti box has an integral bellows and is constructed with 12 brass reeds that are divided into 4 tone groups (3 variations each). Each of the 4 top dials allows the opening of either 0 or 1 reed at a time allowing you to play combinations of reeds, but only up to 4 reeds at a time.
The approximate overall measurements of the instrument are: 14" L x 9" W x 4" D.
Actual instrument weight is approximately 6.5 lbs.
Blemishes in the finish may occur during the two month journey from the manufacturer to the US. They are unavoidable and do not affect the sound or playability. Finish color and decoration style may vary from the photo due to the handmade nature of its construction.
