This Professional Quality Paloma brand electric shahi baaja combines a 5 string bulbul tarang with an integral 10 string swarmandal. The two main metal strings, or melody strings, are plucked or strummed with picks using the right hand, while the fingers of the left hand depress the keys to change the notes. The three drone strings are positioned between the main strings and the 10 swarmandal style strings. The 10 drone strings are strummed like a swarmandal.
The 30 typewriter-style keys are coded black and white, similar to piano keys.
In addition, it features a double pickup with tone and volume controls. The solid body is made of toon wood (Cedrela toona) with a rich, glossy finish. The overall length of the instrument is over 36 inches.
This instrument is currently used in everything from semi-classical and popular Indian music to ambient techno, psychedelic rock and even Hebrew fusion music.
The Shahi Baaja comes with all required cords and accessories and is compatible with most guitar amplifiers.
A durable hard case is included to help protect your musical investment.
Actual instrument weight is approximately 6.5 lbs.
Made in India.
SPECIAL NOTE - No Warranty on Strings:
Manufacturers recommend that you change the strings on your instrument as soon as you receive it. During the long journey to your home the elements affect the strings and may shorten their life expectancy and reduce their sound quality. On occasion, a string may fail during this trip; therefore, it is recommended that you purchase a replacement set of strings and consider changing them as soon as possible. Learning to change strings should be the first lesson learned when embarking on the journey of playing a new instrument.
