This tunable conga features a natural calfskin on a solid wooden shell. The light colored wood is from a member of the maple family, Hevea brasiliensis, commonly known as Parawood in Thailand. The rest of the world knows it as Rubberwood which is very durable and stable, exhibiting minimal shrinkage with age. These characteristics, along with its dense grain, make it a perfect wood for the manufacture of furniture and musical instruments. As the name implies, it is grown primarily for its sap which is used in the production of latex. A rubber tree will produce sap for its entire 26-30 year lifespan before it is cut down and new saplings are planted in its place. Only after its sap production days are over, is the lumber harvested for manufacturing. Fulfilling two uses makes rubberwood an very ecologically friendly lumber.
The approximate overall dimensions of this drum are: 6" x 14".
